Board-certified Physician Assistant Valerie O’Connell has been practicing general and cosmetic dermatology since 2011.
She has significant experience treating children, adults, and seniors in all conditions of the hair, nails, and skin. Before joining Pinnacle Dermatology, she held positions in North Carolina at a pediatric dermatology clinic, a general and surgical dermatology center, and a laser and vein center.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Carlow University in Pittsburgh. She also has a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia. While earning her master’s degree she was named Student of the Year.

Her approach to care is to work collaboratively with all physicians, staff, and administration. She always upholds the highest standards of professionalism, and she understands the key role she plays in diagnosis and treatment. Her training includes performing biopsies, excisions, and sutures, managing laboratory testing, administering/monitoring medications and comprehensive, and overall total individualized patient care.
